Ski mountaineering or skimo is a discipline found within winter mountaineering and consists of the ascent and descent of snowy mountains with the sole help of skis., without any type of mechanical propulsion.
The activity will begin with some review explanations about the theories and practices of use, properties and curiosities of the material used for it. Subsequently, practical reinforcement of the correct climbing technique according to the physical environment or weather conditions, using our bindings and choosing the correct size for the most appropriate and economical way of progression. The activity is divided into two parts. The first “crossing´´ consists of the ascent to the roof of Madrid, El Peñalara through the help of skis and throughout the route we will be taught about knowledge and reading of the environment, route planning and ascent technology on difficult or icy slopes.
The second part consists of the ski descent through areas of virgin snow. Knowing how to choose the safest areas, technique on difficult or icy slopes and with abundant obstacles. Along the route we can find powder snow, crust, with ice or hard on the same mountain descent.
This activity is focused on advanced skiers who are already experts in piste skiing and have some experience in alpine skiing.. The reason is the high handling of the skis, not because of the great slope of the slopes but because of the types of snow.

- Mountain Guide with a specific qualification in Speleology.
- Individual safety material (harness, casco, mono and frontal).
- Civil Liability and Accident Insurance.
- Common and complementary safety material to carry out the activity.
- Technical training necessary before and during the activity: Correct use of material, progression techniques in caving.
Appropriate clothing and utensils for winter activities:
Spare socks, mountain ski pants, Thermal T-shirt (first layer), Fleece lining or similar (Second layer), Gore-Tex type jacket and pants (third layer),
Light and thin primaloft or down jacket. Neck Gaiter. Thin fleece-type gloves and thick gloves. Hat for the cold and cap for the sun. Schoolbag (in between 30-40 liters).
- Sneakers for the cave (not flip flops), old clothes that you don't mind getting dirty with long sleeves.
- Snack food and water (1 liter).
- Spare clothes and shoes to leave in the car.
- Transportation. Additional service of €10 with departure and return to Madrid.
The Guide will have a total of 5 free places that will be reserved by the first to request and which has an additional cost of €10 as a means of sharing vehicle fuel costs. Or the option that in a particular way, stay at the scheduled time at the starting point of the activity.
